Office Work Can Kill You- Because the Human Body Was not Meant to be Sedentary

An office worker literally has a litany of woes on a daily basis. And the modern office worker adds another to an ever-growing list of problems: an increasingly sedentary lifestyle.

Like a poorly maintained car engine, a person who has been sedentary all his life needs an “overhaul”. Here’s how to start overhauling your own body.

Increase your metabolism

What’s the simplest way to increase your metabolism?

Eat breakfast, and drink plenty of water from the moment you wake up until you sleep at night. If you can drink five glasses of water a day, you’re benefiting from an age-old ritual of cleansing the body and increasing the calorie-burning rate of the muscles.

Unlike myths surrounding fluid retention and excess weight, water actually causes the body to be more fluid in its movement. It also helps the muscles move more efficiently, thus giving the body the opportunity to burn off more fat.

You’re not after fat during breakfast. You’re after good old glucose-, which goes directly to the brain to feed it. Did you know that a starved brain could actually cannibalize itself- feeding off the protein present in the brain tissue?

Save your self with plenty of meals

According to Emerald Watson, a nutritionist for a private nursing home in London:

“Lack of exercise can lead to years of disability later on in life. Do not be fooled by a seemingly healthy body. If you don’t invest enough of the good things now, a person can suffer immensely later.”

Start living right by controlling your appetite. However, remember that complete nutritional privation is never healthy. If you are a big eater, you can begin cutting down on the calories by being satisfied with small snacks.

Small healthy snacks such as a glass of wholesome fruit juice or a slice of fruit or lightly salted corn can do wonders for your appetite. Essentially, the body’s cravings for food are still being satisfied but you are actually packing fewer calories by the day.

The body is efficient

Eventually, the body desists and you don’t need to eat as many snacks as before. According to Roland Sprouce, a fitness consultant in Liverpool:

“The human body has the amazing ability to adapt to a variety of circumstances. The emotions can be difficult, but the body can go from a 5,000 per day calorie allowance to 2,000 calories immediately.”

Small goals can also accomplish many things in the field of weight loss. If you dislike formal fitness programs with the guidance of educated trainers, just walk. Buy a pedometer and start walking. A quota of 10,000 steps a day is the best gift you can give your heart and organ systems.

If you think 10,000 steps is too much, you can slash the figure in half. 5,000 steps are quite attainable. A person has to simply exert more effort so that the body learns a new norm.

Expect a bit of rough road if you’ve been a couch potato for the longest time. But once you start with the pedometer, you’re a couch potato no more.
